Stems Submission Guidelines
To ensure a smooth transfer and accurate mix, please follow these guidelines when preparing stems.
Reference Mix
Include your current reference mix with the submission. This confirms that all elements line up and nothing is missing. Ideally, import stems into a blank DAW session and check for clipping or volume issues before sending.
Pro Tools Users
A “Save Session Copy In…” of the project is preferred.
Commit or freeze tracks that use plugins I may not have, and leave them inactive alongside the originals.
Remove unused or bypassed plugins before sending.
Other DAWs
If possible, also provide a frozen or consolidated version of your session.
Logic users: avoid “Export All Tracks as Audio Files”. Instead, bounce each track individually with plugins and automation applied.
Bypass all master bus processing when exporting.
Vocals
Send both dry and processed versions of the lead vocals.
Stacks and Groups
For elements like backing vocals, horns, or strings, provide stereo blends that preserve panning and balance.
Following these steps ensures the session arrives in good shape and ready for mixing.
